History:

Jensen Beach was settled in the early 1800's by a handful of fishermen who eked out a meager existence fishing the area. R.R. Ricou settled in Jensen Beach in 1887, a twenty-one year old with a driving ambition, and began building fish houses throughout the eastern seaboard: Jensen, Salerno, West Palm, Fort Pierce, Titusville, Canaveral, and Fort Lauderdale. The business of the fish houses was handled through the main office in Jensen. Mr. Ricou and Henry Flagler were friends. After the fire of 1908, which almost burned Jensen to the ground, Ricou and Flagler made a business deal: Ricou would build a two-story building on Main Street if Flagler would build a rail station in Jensen. Both were completed. R.R. Ricou spent much of his money building up and beautifying the Jensen community.
