| History:
|
Pompano Beach was settled as a farming community in 1884, and derived it's name from a species of fish called Pompano, that abounded in the nearby waters. The town was incorporated in 1908, but it wasn't until 1947 that it joined with the beach area to form the city of Pompano Beach. The town's famous landmark is the Hillsboro Lighthouse, named for the Earl of Hillsboro, who managed to acquire large grants of land during the English occupation.
